The data rate achieved in 2G networks with Edge technology is just less than 300kbps. On the other hand, the basic data rate available with 3G technology is 384 kilobits per second (Kbps). However, further improvements in basic 3G technology is necessary, which would enable the network carriers to efficiently cater to the evolving needs of phone users.



Experts believe that with the passage of time, mobile phone users would get more demanding. They would want quicker downloads of mobile phone games and other forms of mobile content that interests them. They would also want more advanced capabilities in their handsets.
